Anne and Virginia met while working for an international hosiery manufacturer. It only took a few weeks for the two to form a close friendship that even then felt somewhat driven by fate. Unfortunately, their mutual hope of finally working for an authentic company with a noble mission and a respectful working atmosphere burst pretty quickly, because behind the facade of supposedly ‘woke’ companies, it often doesn't look as nice as one had hoped. In the end,Anne and Virginia had many valuable experiences and made amazing friendships with fantastic colleagues. Above all though, one thought kept them both awake at night; ‘What if we could do this differently? What if we could make it better?’
It Begins!
After many WhatsApp chats and nightly phone calls with a time difference of ten excruciating hours, these small thoughts became a big vision, which they gave the working title 'Dual Defiance.' Two women who defiantly oppose the negative habits of the fashion industry. The working title became the company name, and in November 2022 the web-shop opened with the first two products; the hold-up stockings 'Defiance' and the faux over-knee tights 'Making Waves.'After more than a year of intensive preparation the site went live!
We're on a Mission!
Fashion is for everyone and we're sick of hosiery being reserved for certain sizes and body types. It's not fair! Everyone should have the same chance to discover their individual style with great clothes. With Dual Defiance Anne and Virginia want to start a loving revolution and swim against the tide and offer genuine appreciation, gentle defiance and warm-hearted perseverance. We want to prove to ourselves, our customers and the whole world that there is another way. We CAN make hosiery for EVERY size. We can be an ethical, caring company and we can offer a positive and happy, inclusive environment for our future employees. No more stupid start-up talk about free gummy bears, feel-good managers and unpaid overtime. Time for new, flexible working models, meaningful work, social commitment and, of course fair wages and profit sharing.
